Against the Grain Urban Tavern | http://atgurbantavern.ca
Toronto, ON

It was a great day to sit at a patio and the newly opened Against The Grain Urban Tavern fit the bill perfectly. Located steps from Sugar Beach and with a fantastic view of Lake Ontario, we ordered our food and mimosas to plenty of sunlight and crazy conversation.

I had the very filling breakfast bowl and seriously, the potatoes were full of layered flavour, I didn’t know where to begin. I tried a bit of Lisa’s french toast and I’m pretty sure I’ll be having that on my next visit.

Overall good food, even though service is pretty darn slow. You really wouldn’t care though, because everything about the ambiance is relaxing.
A whirlwind trip to Montreal plus the best brunch find of the year | La Croissanterie Figaro - Hutchinson/Fairmont in Outremont - http://www.lacroissanteriefigaro.com/
I remember finding this place smack dab in the middle of winter of 2010 and there were no patio chairs, no umbrellas, no doggy sippy cups. Figaro, however, had the French decor and music down pat. Coming back 8 months later, it was doubly beautiful and completely worth the trip.
Rolling into Outremont after a 5 hour drive from Toronto, we were hours past hungry and just wanted a fresh cup of coffee and a filling meal.
Le Brunch (pictured above) hit the spot in more ways than one. The ham and eggs wrapped in a thin crepe well complemented the croissant filled with cheese and spinach. Oh don’t forget that this place is a CROISSANTERIE ergo, BEST. CROISSANTS. EVER.
Add to that freshly squeezed OJ and brewed coffee included with the $12 total.
Heaven.
Now back in Toronto. New goal: learn French and move to Outremont. Like now.
Gorgeous location, watch out weekend!

Currently isolated on the lake near Lower Jarvis and Queens Quay, Against The Grain Urban Tavern boasts a large patio that includes couches, standard tables, and lots of greenery - with seating available in both the sun and the shade.
The restaurant is located in the back of the Corus building beside Sugar Beach, with a spectacular view of the water. We noted that there is a Bixi bike stand on the premises.
Possibly one of the best brunches in the east end.

First of all, homemade maple bacon. Also, such fluffy eggs. And two blocks from me.
This place is still a hidden gem but worth the trek to the east end if only for the homemade jam.
Bon appetit!

Valentine’s Day brunch before Yorkville shopping, dahling.
English breakfast has always been a favourite of mine, and this time it was pretty tasty. The main attraction is really the home fries sauteed in onions and possibly crack, because it tastes so good.
Sonja and Lisa ordered the others and unfortunately for my full stomach, I didn’t even get a chance to to try them out.
Always a next time,
PS: Lululemon had a sale so I got a new gym back. Hooray for Valentine’s Day sales!
A day with the girls at School Bakery in Liberty Village. Definitely one of my favourite brunch places in the city. Come early though, to avoid the lineup.
Coffee is passable and it’s nice and warm in the winter. Walls were pretty cool to look at while waiting, with clocks, clocks, clocks everywhere.
I ordered the Super Cheesy French Toast and I swear I will have dreams of this breakfast for so long. The salty with the sweet is a fabulous combination in the cold morning.
Lisa had the Coconut and Caramel pancakes which seemed like so much fun to eat!
But please make room for pastries.
Oh and the mimosas were meh.

This may have been in 2010 after my friend Vic left for Oz. Scrambles with brown toast, just perfectly cooked.
Had mimosas too and a particularly disturbing brow problem haha.
Green Eggplant @ Queen East/Beaches | http://www.greeneggplant.com/index.html
After a week and a half indoors recovering from my yearly January flu, I knew I wanted to have the best first meal out, and I couldn’t have chosen a better place.
Brunch at Green Eggplant is an experience, for sure. The service is always prompt and friendly, and the fruity cocktails magnificent (yes, even at 11 AM on a Sunday. Don’t judge.) Never had to wait longer than 15 minutes for a table, even on a weekend.
Eggs Benny will always be my favourite, the hollandaise sauce is perfection. Oh and see the mixed berry french toast? A beautiful death for me, thank you.
I must’ve devoured at least 4 cups of coffee in this one meal, it was so delicious.
I can gush some more but I really need to go to bed. :)
Good night, all!
And when I say “love”, I mean LOVE.
(I love that this is starting to feel like a confessional…)
I started 2011 with the goal to try 100 new brunch restaurants in the Greater Toronto Area for a whole year…but wasn’t realistic on the weight gain. So let’s go slow.
Oh and how are you?
